Spiritual Teacher

Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy, a spiritual master, poet, writer, artist, and visionary for world peace, was born in 1931 in Bengal, India. He spent over two decades in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, where he studied under many esteemed Indian teachers and scholars. In 1964, he moved to New York City to share his teachings with Western seekers, making the city his home until his passing in 2007.

Throughout his 76 years, Sri Chinmoy established the Sri Chinmoy Centre, an international organisation dedicated to promoting peace through sports, music, humanitarian efforts, and community projects. He emphasised the importance of a spiritual approach to world peace, advocating meditation as a foundation for cultivating the inner peace necessary for lasting global harmony.

Sri Chinmoy’s prolific output and unwavering dedication left a remarkable legacy, including a vast array of writings, art, and musical compositions. His life and work remain extraordinary, marked by his visits to New Zealand, where he met with successive Prime Ministers and built lasting connections with sports figures and civic leaders.
